Saturday means it’s time for Rainbow Snippets, the meme where readers and writers share six lines from a piece of LGBTQ+ fiction.
This weekend, I’m sharing from “Close Encounter of the Three-way Kind” by Rob Rosen in Myths, Moons, and Mayhem, a paranormal anthology of male ménage a trois that I edited that came out last month and is on sale this weekend through Cyber Monday (details below).
In this quirky comedy, the arrival of aliens from another galaxy results in a dwindling international supply of candy corn. But despite taking over two continents, they’re not as interested in invasion as consensual exploration. Alien probing never felt so good!
These six sentences open “Close Encounter of the Three-way Kind”:
The aliens settled in Africa and Europe—what with their love of giraffes and Alpine skiing, and all—and forced the previous inhabitants to move out. In return, they offered us a cure for cancer and put a stop to global warming. It seemed like a fair trade, all things considered, until the newly evicted neighbors, ergo a third of the planet, started arriving in droves and you realized just how necessary a daily shower and a stick of deodorant really were.
Though, to be fair, none of us really had that much say in the matter. One minute we were setting out our jack–o’–lanterns and stocking up on toilet paper for our various trickeries; the next, the sky was filled with flying saucers. Seems that 1950s Hollywood got that part right.

About Rainbow Snippets
Rainbow Snippets is a Facebook group and meme for sharing excerpts from your own or others’ stories about queer/LGBTQIA characters. The goal is to share six or so lines—one for each stripe on the rainbow flag. (Most rainbow flags have six stripes, but there are variations with up to nine, so participants have some leeway with the exact number.)
